In a society with an ageing population, many of the jobs of the future will be available in the Health and Social Care sector. This 2-year course, which allows students to get 4 GCSE’s in Health & Social Care, requires comparatively little time in the classroom. Instead, the students are out in the work place working alongside adults as apprentices. They rotate their placements ensuring they get a variety of experiences covering such establishments as nurseries, pharmacies, hospitals and care homes. As well as the qualification in Health & Social Care they gain certificates in Basic Food Hygiene, First Aid, Customer Services and Health and Safety. Every Wednesday morning students go to work instead of coming to school. They even have to give up a week of their summer holiday to do an extended placement. Students are enthusiastic - “It’s great and we even have a cool uniform!” |
