Shine, an annual festival held in Redcar, took place in Zetland Park on Sunday, attracting thousands of visitors who were entertained by gigantic art works, including papier mâché puppets made by Year 9 from Redcar Community College.
The day, which was full of exciting activities, included live music, face painting and a bouncy castle.

 June 21st-25th saw RCC’s first Maths Week. Students were treated to a week of fun maths activities designed to demonstrate to students the relevance of maths outside of the classroom. Starting with year 9s on Monday 21st we had a ‘mathmagician’ visit school to demonstrate to staff and students how maths is used in performing magic tricks. |

Montoro (Cordoba) 28th May - 6th June 2010 Mr Rees, Mrs Skeoch, Miss Jerry and Mrs Lopez took a group of 20 students (a mixture of Y8, Y9 and Y10) to Montoro, Cordoba (Spain) to take part in the first phase of our bilateral project (funded by Comenius) with our host Spanish school (IES Santos Isasa). |

For the fourth year in a row the dance students at Redcar Community College created another fantastic performance for International Dance Day. There were nearly 70 students ranging from Y7 toY11 performing to approximately 600 people over the 3 days. |

This week our assemblies have been focused on the Easter story with the message of caring and support being the central theme. Students from each house have been taking part in the assembly which has been a mixture of readings and musical items. The choir performed ‘Any dream will do’ from Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat with a solo performance from Matthew Moon. |

As part of a cross departmental project with ICT and Dance and Breakdancer from the 'Bad taste Cru' Came to work with 14 Year 8 and Year 9 Boys. The basis of this exciting project is the creation of a film using Green Screen Technology plus a documentary following the process which will be used as a teaching resource.
The Boys learnt the basics of break dancing and recreated a scene from the famous Breakdancing Film 'Beat Street'. All the boys had a hard but rewarding day and are looking forward to seeing their 'freezes' on the Big Screen. Watch this space for the final film! |

Adele Puckrin attended Redcar Community College from 1998 - 2003. She was a high performing student who was a very popular young lady.
Sadly, Adele developed a brain tumour and suffered in the final year of her school life. Despite this major illness she continued to strive to achieve brilliant results. She completed all her coursework on time and managed to take some of her GCSEs. Unfortunately Adele couldn’t complete them all, she was too poorly. In the GCSEs she took she achieved A* - C in all of them. |

On Wednesday 25th November Redcar Community College held its annual Celebration of Achievement Awards Evening. The students who graduated from the college in the summer of 2009 were invited, along with their parents, to receive recognition for gaining outstanding examination results; the best in the history of the college. |

In the build-up to Christmas the thoughts of the students at Redcar Community College always turn to those less fortunate than themselves; and this year was no exception.
Again, as they have done for a number of years, the students decided to support the Children in Distress charity. Staff from this charity visit Romania several times each year, taking gifts and materials for children; they support several day medical centres and orphanages in Bucharest. This year the students filled and decorated 180 shoe boxes to be sent to children in these centres.

This week Year 10 BTEC Acting students from Redcar Community College performed ‘There is a Werewolf in Town’ by Lewis Gardner. This play was enjoyed by over 200 students from local Primary Schools. Year 9 students also provided entertainment in the form of Contemporary Dance. An Art Exhibition was also part of the event and featured mixed media portraits, photography and Batik work. |
