A place to grow
There is so much personal change when we are at secondary school; we start at just 11 years old but when we move on into college or training at 16 we have grown both physically and emotionally. We have changed from a child into a young adult.
Our support of this growth begins before your child even reaches us because we work in partnership with the primary schools. We create a place for your child to shine; offer them support and opportunity and as they mature, the chance to work across a Trust of secondary schools and Colleges. We value these partnerships but most of all we value the partnership that we form with parents.
The Arts
The focus on Creativity and the Arts has had a major impact on standards in the school but from a student’s perspective they have meant increased engagement and a confidence boost. Our students are used to the limelight and constantly surprise us with their talent and imagination. One of our Head boys shared a stage in Prague and was followed by Vaclav Havel; famous playwright, poet, dissident and first President of the Czech Republic!
An International dimension
The school takes community cohesion very seriously (judged outstanding by Ofsted). As part of that work and to help our students see themselves as global citizens, we have developed active links and exchanges with Uganda, Holland, Spain and France. In Uganda our students have worked directly with young Ugandan children living in real poverty but hungry to learn. We have also, with the support of students and parents, raised money to drill a well to bring clean water to a forest village in the Ugandan countryside.
The Trust
We are founder members of the Redcar and Marske Specialist Schools Trust, a group of like minded schools that want to maintain a high quality education for the whole of the Redcar and Marske community. The trust members include important local businesses as well as The Sage Gateshead, Redcar and Cleveland College, Prior Pursglove and the University of Teesside.
This means that we are able to offer our students access to an outstanding range of high quality courses and other opportunities. It is also an excellent example of the local business community working hand in hand with the schools to serve the people of Redcar and Marske.
“Students are courteous to others, including visitors, and show maturity, responsibility and pride in their school.” – Ofsted
