A place to be creative
We are a Creative School and you can see this in our curriculum where imaginative teaching and learning raises achievement. We are creative thinkers and take pride in our students’ confidence and self expression. Our commitment to creativity provides extraordinary opportunities for young people to shine brightly.
This focus on creativity has produced a school culture which is very engaging and helps to build self-confidence – visitors always comment on the warmth and friendliness of our students. They also see the quality of the creative work evident on our walls but this is just a small part of the impact. Beyond the art work on display is the positive effect of creativity in the classroom and the excitement of performance.
The Farwath Centre
The Farwath Centre is the setting for the performing arts and is a fabulous facility which features a large mirrored dance studio, two drama workshops and a performance space as well as a music room with dedicated recording facilities and practice rooms. In addition to these performing arts facilities it houses a modern multi-gym.
The Arts are also taught in the main part of the school where we have three art rooms and space for creative textiles, ceramics, photography and even a glass workshop.
Beyond the Arts
You would expect a Creative School to be well resourced for the arts but you might be surprised by the impact of arts across the whole curriculum and even in our thinking when planning improvements. Did you know for example that all of our teachers undertake at least one hour per fortnight on training and always with a focus on Teaching and Learning?
By being more creative in our approaches to teaching we have helped students become much more involved in their learning.
“I’m a creative person and this school has given me lots of opportunities to develop my creativity.”
