Technical, Practical & Creative Skills

In Food and Textiles students are involved in a range of practical based activities that develop skills, confidence and creativity whilst working individually and as team members.  The area is open plan, with two recently refurbished practical food rooms and a textile area. In addition there are a number of well equipped work shops and facilities to support a very successful area that develops engineering, electronic and product design skills. Some of the courses include a route into the world of work and Child Development as well as skill based food work that would lead to certification in food hygiene, a requirement needed to work in the food industry.

There are also a number of computer suites, which enable students to work with a variety of ICT equipment in both the food and technical workshops that enable students to produce quality work which is enhanced with the use of digital cameras and CAD/CAM embroidery machines and computer controlled lathes.

The creative side of students work in school is explained in the leaflet entitled ‘Our Specialist Status’.  It is supported by state of the arts facilities including a dance studio, indoor and outdoor theatres and digital music recording studio and radio recording equipment.

The emphasis in all areas of the curriculum is on enjoyable lessons involving quality teaching and learning experiences which are often supported by the Arts.
