Specialist Status
When we decided which specialism we would apply for, we decided that we wanted something that would develop our students’ creative, social and emotional skills as well as improve their academic performance and chances of employment. For that reason we chose working with the visual and performing arts as a way of developing the confidence and personal skills of our students. As a specialist school in the Visual and Performing Arts, Redcar Community College has been able to change the lives of our students and young people through a range of Arts projects.
Students have worked with graffiti artists and skateboard professionals as well as actors, dancers, photographers, musicians and many other kinds of Artists.
We have students whose work is of such a high standard in Art that they have had work in Art exhibitions in London that international Art experts are invited to attend. The most recent of these was the Christie’s Exhibition which featured two of our students. We hold the Artsmark Gold Award, a prestigious award presented to a small number of selected secondary schools.
