Extended Services

The Government is very keen to see governing bodies and local authorities open up their schools to provide wider services for pupils, families and the communities – services such as lifelong learning, childcare, parenting support, ICT access and even on-site health and social care.  At the centre of this idea is the Full Service Extended School programme.

Redcar Community College is Redcar and Cleveland’s only full service extended school.  The former youth club on the school site has been remodelled as the base for the extended services and activities.

A range of services and activities and events have been established – cookery courses, parent survival programme, child care on site, drugs awareness, health and well-being sessions, computer courses, study support, inter agency drop in service, homework club, crafts, fitness, dance, Primary University and health promotion events etc – and community groups and other agencies use the Centre for meetings and events.  Some families have booked the Compass Centre to host their child’s birthday party.  The programme is developing on an almost daily basis as more people give us their views about what sort of services they want available.

Please visit our Community section on the website to see more about the Extended Services.
